Cutting the rose hole and cabinet scraping the soundboard

The cabinet or card scraper is an under-used tool. Well sharpened it can be used instead of sandpaper, and is capable of removing the finest fibres from the surface (not unlike shaving); it is particularly effective where hand planes would tear the grain. Here it left a shiny surface ready for the application of shellac. The music being played is Bach's Capriccio in honour of his son J.C.
