Burr elm bookrest, c1978

Dimensioned from a Victorian original. Veneered, using a system I wouldn't use again - iron-on veneer glue. You buy a roll of heat-resistant paper with glue on one side and iron it on. Then you iron the veneer over it. Trouble is, ironing shrinks and dries the veneer. I made two of them in this way, the second using bird's eye maple; and several others using solid wood, which were more successful because they were less vulnerable
