Opens by swivelling on a metal threaded stud. One of the two silver pins locks both the swivel and the sliding top, and the other just locks the top. It's made of holly, which is not the most stable of materials when in large section, and the top has since been rebuilt with two ebony slips added to compensate for shrinkage
