John Bradburne's box

This was made to contain some relics that belonged to John Bradburne - "God's vagabond" - holy fool, mystic, martyr, wanderer, poet, carer for the lepers of Mutemwa in Zimbabwe where he was murdered by guerillas in 1979. He may become the first Briton to be canonized for 400 years; the 'nihil obstat' phase of the process was signed off by the Holy See in 2019, so he now has the title "Servant of God". The brief was to enable people to see the relics without touching them, while keeping them safe - the plate glass cover can be locked in place by the frame lid. 'Mary's goblet' pictured in this site was made for his sister, who was also a saint, although not the religious kind
