Ruby's box

Poplar with laburnum banding. Line at the edge of the bottom is parana pine (which is what the bottom is made of), corner splines are laburnum. A special cradle is needed to hold the box at the right angle and make regular cuts, running the box in a sled over a wide kerf circular blade - preferably with flat top tungsten tips. Poplar is easy to bruise, but has lovely delicate grain and the fibres sometimes show chatoyance. The grain wraps round the four sides. Ruby liked the box but asked for a false bottom to be retro-fitted.
