Brass-splined box showing catch mechanism

Cut from solid brass, the hook socket is filed square to fit over a coach screw with square shoulder; the knob was then screwed onto the protruding bolt until the small remaining white sliver of wood in the knob faced upwards. Turning it is quite stiff, and as yet the spring doesn't return the latch to the locking position, but it will get looser over time
