Spoon canteen
The spoons I made have up to now all been jumbled up in a cutlery drawer, so I decided to make a box for them, tailored to fit the various sizes, using harpsichord soundboard wood (sitka spruce) for the layers of trays. The box case is Essex walnut, and the top is oak and ebony. The grain wraps around the four sides, although the front of the right side doesn't match the right side of the front, because the plank wasn't thick enough to split down the middle. A pair of Edwardian chest handles were needed because the box is quite heavy when full. This was recorded before I made and fitted a catch for the lid - see the following photos
