Willow bowls 2019
Set of nine bowls made from the willow tree mentioned by a famous Chinese writer in a poem written in 1928. The tree died of honey fungus a few years ago so these bowls are a memento of him and his poetry. Willow is not easy to turn - the wood is fibrous and stringy, and it is very difficult to get a good finish on it. They had to be rough-turned first while still 'green', and then shaped (and filled with epoxy in a couple of cases) and thinned later
